Dark Color Theme for Aptana / Eclipse by NightLion

April 25th, 2009 at 2:06 pm by Vinny

For anyone out there that uses Eclipse or Aptana as their software development IDE, I found a great color theme replacement. The “Green Chaud” color theme is a light on dark theme, which is easier on the eyes than the standard theme.

Download it here: http://gueschla.com/labs/green-chaud/

Update: The Green Chaud color theme seems to no longer be available. Instead, check out NightLion’s Aptana 2.0 color theme.

www.BuyProSoft.com — SCAM website! Illegal Software Sales!

April 13th, 2009 at 10:01 am by Vinny

I recently purchased a copy of Adobe Lightroom from www.buysoftpro.com. They were advertising on google, and they had the lowest price by $20. Excellent!

Well, to make a long story short, after purchasing the product with Paypal, i received a serial number for the software. I called Adobe to confirm that the serial number was valid (so I could register my product), and it wasn’t! Even though the serial number was accepted by the program, it was not a real serial number. This is pretty common actually, since the serial number can easily be generated with a serial number generator.

So I disupted the charge with Paypal and found out that the man running the site lives somewhere in the middle east! After threatening to report the site to the FBI, he refunded my money.

Beware out there! Don’t use that site!

Dragging Objects Between Tabs in Adobe Photoshop CS4

February 24th, 2009 at 3:04 pm by Vinny

Adobe Photoshop CS4 is great. The new tabbed interface to switch between different open images is cool. Dragging layers or objects between the tabs sucks. It’s actually kind of simple once I took the time to research it, but it was very unintuitive. Here is a video showing how to do it.

The short version of the video is to drag the object to the new tab until the window switches. Once it switches, press shift and let go.

Windows Freeware File Tree by TreeSize

February 17th, 2009 at 4:44 pm by Vinny

Treesize File TreeEvery hard disk is too small if you just wait long enough. TreeSize Free tells you where precious space has gone to. TreeSize Free can be started from the context menu of a folder or drive and shows you the size of this folder, including its subfolders. You can expand this folder in Explorer-like style and you will see the size of every subfolder. Scanning is done in a thread, so you can already see results while TreeSize Free is working. The space, which is wasted by the file system, can be displayed and the results can be printed in a report.

Repairing Outlook 2007 Calendar Time Zones

February 17th, 2009 at 1:19 pm by Vinny

I woke up this morning to an Outlook 2007 disaster. For some reason, Outlook or Vista had decided that every appointment that was in my calendar under GMT, really should have been listed as Central America. Needless to say, my entire calendar was botched.

Luckily, Microsoft released a tool that is designed to fix this. Download the Time Zone Data Update Tool for Microsoft Office Outlook, Free from Microsoft’s site.

Which leaves me to wonder: If they knew enough to release the tool to fix the problem, why not just fix the problem itself?
