Fix for Auto-update on WordPress 2.8 and ‘Could not create Temporary file’

July 1st, 2009 at 11:26 am by Vinny

I’ve spent the better part of the last two days trying to figure out why my wordpress would no longer auto-update files without asking for FTP information, and even then, failing when trying to update. The failure message I was receiving is: Download failed.: Could not create Temporary file

I finally found a solution on Keith Garner’s Blog.

The main article, which fixes the auto-update problem, can be found here

It also links to a second article, which discusses the temporary file failure problem.

Enjoy!

ColorBox – Customizable Lightbox Plugin for jQuery

June 26th, 2009 at 8:58 pm by Vinny

After spending an enormous amount of time trying to customize the zenPhoto lightbox theme, I happened to stumble upon ColorBox. Colorbox is a customizable lightbox plugin for jQuery. It’s hands down the most flexible and easy to configure lightbox plugin on the web. The appearance is completely controlled through CSS. It’s 100% slick.

Check out ColorBox here, at http://colorpowered.com/colorbox/.

Pictaculous is an excellent and very simple color generator can be found at pictaculous.com. All you have to do is upload an image and you will get a color palette related to this image. You also get suggestions from Kuler and ColorLovers. As with all things related to color, the possibilities are endless.

jQuery Lightbox for Zenphoto Gallery – Firefox loading issues

June 24th, 2009 at 10:36 am by Vinny

I ran into a few issues trying to install the jQuery lightbox plugin for the new VinnyAndJess.com photo galleries. Specifically the transitioning between images in Firefox seemed choppy at best. More often then not, the loading image would dissapear and the original image would be displayed. A few seconds later, the new image would appear.

Some research turned up a z-index problem within the code, but in my search, i found that the the jQuery Lightbox plugin was moved to github. There is a much newer version available. The latest version as of this post is June 17, 2009. You can find the project at http://github.com/krewenki/jquery-lightbox/tree/master.

Any Video Converter is perfect for anyone who do not want to be bothered with the myriad of options of video encoding and just wants a fast solution (and FREE) solution that gets the job done. The converter handles all popular video files with batch-convert and user-defined options. Any Video Converter also has a dumbed-down interface to make video conversion as simple as possible, although it can handle advanced video conversions if you tinker behind the interface and experiment with options.

Putty SSH Client Addons (Colors, tabs and more)

June 18th, 2009 at 9:32 pm by Vinny

For those of you out there that stare at SSH windows all day long, these PUTTY mods should ease some of your burdens.

Putty Color Schemes / Themes:

I seem to spend inordinate amounts of my time working inside a remote SSH tunnel on a daily basis. And nothing is worse than trying to decipher the default dark-blue/green/red colors against a black background in PuTTY. This really helps make your life much more legible.

PuTTYCM gives a nice feature to arrange several PuTTY sessions in tabs .

Using PuTTYtray, you can minimize the PuTTY window to the system tray on windows. By default, original PuTTY stores the session information in the registry. This is painful, when you want to transfer PuTTY sessions from one laptop to another. In PuTTYtray, there is an additional radio button “Sessions from file” as shown below, that will let you store session information in a file.
