Not Fallin’ for Fall…but I AM busy as a Bee!

October 13th, 2009 at 10:45 pm by Jess

boo hoo jack o lanternWell, here we are again-another summer has gone and BAM!–fall is here. So far, October has been insane for us, and most of St. Louis. Every weekend we have had plans, be it one party here or another. We recently went to Lure and listened to Starkillers play. No matter if you like his music or not, it is always a good show. Everyone has a good night, dancing and laughing –it is fun to go out and party when Starkillers is in town. Then there was last weekend, in which Vin played at Level 13 (located at Rue 13 on Saturday nights) along with Jeff Hopkins and D.C. It was an official CD release party for Vin and I have to tell you, 400 CDs went out and alot of people gave us props for one heck of a night. If you weren’t there for one reason or another, you missed a great night. The dance floor was hopping and I would imagine the bar made great cash. I went from table to table, being the congenial angel that I am (hahahahaha!) and talked to people all night. Thanks to everyone who came out and supported the guys! Jeff Hopkins is doing a great job revamping Saturday nights on Washington Avenue. It has been a long time since I have felt at home there. Kudos!!!!

This night came, of course, right after Justin Martin played at Upstairs Lounge. The only problem that I have about that venue is that people smoke like chimneys and it is hard to breathe. Ugh! But honestly, I have never seen it so packed! He played one awesome set and it seemed that time went by fast. I (being a short, small girl) could not make it across the floor all night. So I danced where I was and had a blast with friends.

So what is next for October?

Well, this week marks the beginning of Fashion Week, in which I always try to go and support Vin because he plays the music for it. I like fashion anyway and it is nice to see what fashion is through the eyes of others. I think that sometimes it becomes a place for “socialites” to parade around, trying to get “noticed”. I don’t mean any disrespect, but I usually find my seat and sit shyly, waiting for the lights to dim.

Next, on Saturday the 17th is the long awaited for “Booty Halloween”. Located in Koken Art Factory that is actually an old factory–so it is room to room and downstairs with a maze to wind around. Dressing up for Halloween is a blast, no matter who you are. There is great music-a different electronic genre in each room so there is a little something for everyone. Last year there were witches and gangsters, playboy bunnies and gruesome ghouls. There were outfits that people really spent alot of time on and it was great. I am still trying to decide if I am going this year, simply for the fact that I need breathing room. :) But, in the Vinny and Jess fashion, we will end up going and having a great time.

Now for Saturday the 24th. I know that the group of friends I see out alot will probably be cozy in their lofts and homes, but I really want to go. It is the Fetish Ball at Lure, with Crucial B and many, many different oddities to behold. There is not alot of opportunities that one gets to wear latex or rubber. Hmm, I think I will check this out. There may be some freaky stuff and you know how we love to take pictures. Even if you don’t go, I bet you will take a glance at our gallery ;) There may be people eating fire, there may be people hanging from the ceiling. I tell you, one time when Vin and I were in New York, we went to a party that was held in a huge factory. They put us in an old metal dumbwaiter-type elevator and took us up up and away. When the door opened, we stepped into a strange world. There were all kinds of people, in chains and rubber, goth looking and normal looking. There were acrobatics going on and I don’t even know what all was going on, but I put it in a file in my mind of memories worth remembering–just because I was there and saw funky stuff and I am glad I took a look at the wild side of life!

Now we come to the end of October. We have two birthday parties on Friday the 30th. Wow, we will be running around big time. But we have decided that nothing, absolutely nothing will be going on Saturday the 31th. That is the best night of October for me; I get to babysit my little two month old niece. I think that this sums up the fact that, with all the events we have going on in October, it always comes back to calm down time with family. There is nothing better than when she smiles at me for no reason, or when Vin tweaks her nose and she makes a face. Perfection.

Now, back to fall. October will be ending soon. I hope November is sunny-it needs to be. I need the sunshine to grow and to feel energized. I snowfallam sure we all are like that. I can’t even believe that November will be coming in a couple of weeks. Then Thanksgiving. Then December comes and you know how that goes. December flies by so fast I can’t even see it. What a whirlwind! I surely will be writing you my woes by that time again!

And so, I leave you with thoughts of a busy season ahead. And also of a season that seems to be an eternity for me. I anxiously await for little tiny green leaves to poke out of my garden, for you all know that I love my garden. Until then I will stare at all of the tropical plants that have to litter the house when I bring them in from the cold every October. I will pretend that I am far away in some tropical paradise and I will stay inside for as long as I can!
